Save the Ramshorn

A plan has been formulated to close the Ramshorn Theatre, displacing Strathclyde Theatre Group, as part of an effort for Strathclyde University to become a centre of technical "excellence". The University are trying to squeeze out the arts sections of the University as part of this move.

The University are saying that they want to dispose of the Ramshorn Theatre (this is part of a 10 year plan so we don't know when it's going to happen).

They haven't mentioned STG but disposing of the Ramshorn can be seen as a threat to STG.

The Ramshorn Theatre is an integral part of many people's lives, both performing artists and audience members. Without it, Glasgow will have lost a great part of its soul.

An EGM is being held on 1st July 2009 at 1830 in the Ramshorn Theatre. Please attend and show your support (Update: People who are non-STG but may become members are welcome).

Please join with us to support the fight against this misguided decision. You can find more information on the Save the Ramshorn Theatre from closure group and sign up for the EGM event on Facebook

AUDITIONS for Arches LIVE! 2009

AuditionsAuditions For Arches LIVE! 2009.

We are holding auditions for male and female actors to be involved in a show currently titled ‘Pictures of Heaven’ to be performed at the Arches LIVE! theatre festival in September.

The piece takes as its inspiration a short story by Ali Smith in which disparate characters are woven together through the mutual discovery of hoaxed pictures of heaven in shop windows. The piece will be an exploration of grief, hope and will look to expose the profound beauty that can be found in small personal narratives.

The text written by Catriona Easton will be developed with the cast during early stages of rehearsal so we are looking for enthusiastic and creative performers to collaborate with.

The festival takes place between 17th-25th September and our piece will be performed for up to three nights, although these dates are yet to be confirmed. The rehearsal period will include development during July and rehearsals proper starting at the beginning of September.

Auditions will take place 1-4pm on Friday 10th July at The Arches. Please contact Harry Wilson on 07803 082 810 or roseability32@hotmail.com to confirm a time.

If you are unable to make this slot but still wish to audition then you can contact us and we can try to arrange an alternative date/time.

Thanks

Harry Wilson
and
Catriona Easton
